Faber Fiber Studio

Located in the lush greens of a private compound in Silang, a short drive South of Manila, the studio is a space where artist Francesca Balaguer Mercado creates her personal work and offers various art classes, including the only Saori Weaving workshops in the country.

Saori Weaving is a Japanese freestyle weaving method, wherein an absolute beginner can dive in and experience the wonders of crafting one of a kind textiles with no previous training required.

It was founded by Misao Jo in Osaka, Japan in 1969. Misao herself, only started weaving when she was 57 years old. In Saori, there are no mistakes. Here, experimentation is encouraged and self-expression is fostered by teaching techniques that individuals use to explore their own unique creativity. Saori Weaving welcomes anyone, no matter what age, gender, mental aptitude or physical ability one may possess.

Misao Jo has been considered a National treasure in Japan, being honored by the Minister of Health and Welfare in 1990 and by the Prime Minister in 1992.

Francesca has been blessed to meet Misao Jo and train under her son Sensei Kenzo , who has passionately continued his mother's mission to make everyone realize the beauty of their own unique creativity.

The studio is equipped with beautifully crafted Saori Looms for both Children and adults. Materials of various textures and colors are all provided for.

All you need are ready hands and an open heart.
